Artists
No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatsoever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive - Martha Graham
Is there something getting between you and making your art? It’s often hard to get back to the sense of inspiration we had when we started creating. Life gets in the way - money, routines, and other obligations. Whether you’re a professional or a hobbyist, all artists occasionally find themselves in a creative rut. Therapy can help you reconnect with your inner artist.
There is something unique to the lives of creative people that most people outside the arts usually don’t understand. We feel our feelings deeply. We are called to make things as a way of understanding ourselves and the world around us. We typically resent deadlines and all things “practical” that form barriers to the creative process.
I have found exploring feelings through art to be an incredibly powerful tool. Not only is there healing power in making art, but also many insights to be found in reflecting on an artistic life with a counselor who gets it. The days of feeling all the feelings, all the time, and the days of feeling mind-numbing, heart-numbing nothingness. The highs of finishing a project. The lows of not knowing how to express the thing that you’re trying to say. The ever-present weight of financial stress. The balance between managing “adulting” and trying to stay connected to that flow of indescribable energy that every so often reminds you of your “one wild and precious life”.
In addition to being a therapist, I’m also an artist. I’ve sung since I could talk and I’ve written songs since I was 11. I earned my BA in Theatre & Psychology from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. My other hobbies include painting, baking, playing keyboard and guitar, and surrounding myself with plants. I want to talk to you about where you’re at in your artistic journey, and help you to build a meaningful and creative life.
Why artists, specifically?
Be brave enough to live life creatively.
You have to leave the city of your comfort
and go into the wilderness of your intuition.
You can't get there by bus, only by hard work
and risk and by not quite knowing what you're doing.
What you'll discover will be wonderful.
What you'll discover will be yourself.
