What Groups Offer People Healing From Narcissistic Relationships That Individual Therapy Doesn’t
I offer individual and group therapy for individuals healing from narcissistic relationships. Even though individual therapy has enormous benefits in healing from trauma, there are some things that my group members receive that my individual clients don’t. Here are the top 3 things I think groups offer over individual therapy:
Community: A relationship with a narcissist can leave us feeling incredibly lonely. We often get isolated from our friends and family because the narcissist doesn’t like when we hang out with them. Alternatively, we our loved ones might not understand narcissism and encourage us to tolerate the abusive behavior. It’s difficult to find supportive people who really understand something this complicated. With a group, you’re in community with people who not only get it, but have been through it themselves and can share that lived experience.
Education: I offer educational handouts during each group, so we can answer some of your most burning questions about narcissism, such as: Do they know what they’re doing? Why do they act this way? Why do I keep on people pleasing? How can I set better boundaries? When we understand both the narcissist and ourselves we can make informed decisions about the changes we want to make moving forward.
Empowerment: If you’re ready to make some big changes like breaking up or cutting ties, you have a group of people who are guaranteed to understand and support you. We’re much more likely to set boundaries when we have a support system to carry us through the difficult experience. I’ve heard “this group saved my life” from past members who were able to rid themselves of toxic relationships.
I offer two separate groups for people healing from narcissistic relationships
✨ Weekly Survivors of Narcissism- I offer this 8 week group once every season. Within the group we learn about trauma and narcissism, engage in grounding techniques, and process shared experiences of narcissistic relationships. Members of this group are typically early in their understanding of narcissism or new to intentionally navigating this difficult relationship. Fall and spring groups are in-person. Summer and winter groups are virtual.
✨ Monthly Survivors of Narcissism - This ongoing group offers continued community support and was formed by members who have already attended the weekly group. This group is welcoming new members and could work well for someone who is already working through a narcissistic relationship with an individual therapist or coach, but is looking for additional community support. We meet in-person in Boston (Jamaica Plain, MA).
The weekly and monthly groups are open to Massachusetts residents who are ready to navigate narcissistic relationships with a supportive community! If you’re ready to heal in community with others who have experienced a narcissistic relationship, reach out for a free intro call!
